Local Government Minister Phil Woolas visited sheltered housing scheme ‘Sabarmati House’ in Leicester operated by Asra Midlands so that he could see first-hand the benefits of the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Supporting People programme which has provided funding for the scheme.
Part of Sanctuary Housing Group, Asra Midlands provides support for people with an Asian lifestyle and others in need of accommodation across a range of housing-based programmes including, sheltered housing, residential care, family housing and schemes for women fleeing domestic violence.
The home’s 36 residents live in purpose-built self-contained flats. Their ages range from 60 to 90 years old they all keep themselves active – one practices the Japanese healing technique known as Reike as well as carrying out voluntary work at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester.
