Sanctuary begins building care centre at Hatfield

Work has begun on Sanctuary Housing Group’s new 118 bed nursing care centre at Hatfield.

Peterborough-based company Baxter & King Construction will build the £6.5 million project and work is expected to be completed by May 2008. The new centre will create 100 full and part-time jobs.

The facility, run by Sanctuary Care, will provide care for older people needing nursing, intermediate services and dementia services, as well as housing a domiciliary resource base from which Sanctuary Home Care will support people in the area. There will also be a training centre on site.

The five-storey building is at the prestigious Comet Square, which is a brand new redevelopment of the former Hatfield Aerodrome.

£6.5 million project expected to be completed by May 2008. The new centre will create 100 full and part-time jobs.

Steve Wood, Managing Director of Sanctuary Care, said: “We are delighted that building work on this wonderful new centre is about to be started. It is our biggest venture to date and we are looking forward to working in partnership with our contractors and future residents.

The majority of the care beds are likely to be commissioned by Social Services and Primary Care Trusts from Hatfield and bordering authorities. The remainder will be available to the public.

Mr Wood added: “Our residents will be looked after in spacious state-of-the-art facilities by expert nursing and care staff.”

Kevin Storey, Construction Director of Baxter & King Construction, said: “We are an award-winning company that has specialised in building care homes for more than twenty years and we pride ourselves in our fair and honest attitude. This is an exciting project and we look forward to working with Sanctuary to provide high quality results.”
