Alan Place residents rewarded

Rhonda Jackson & Rose Williams with their certificates

The newly formed Alan Place Residents Association (APRA) has been recognised for its contribution to the community at Alan Place, a Sanctuary Shaftesbury general rented scheme in Reading.

Residents Rhonda Jackson and Rose Williams are chair and secretary respectively of the association, and received the certificates on behalf of the group at the 25th annual Reading Voluntary Awards.

The award is in recognition of APRA’s significant contribution in improving the community, which includes working with Sanctuary to raise awareness of residents’ needs.

Peter Brierley, community development officer for Sanctuary Shaftesbury, a member of leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, contacted Reading Voluntary Action to nominate the group, in light of its continuing hard work at the scheme.

"Resident involvement is crucial to ensure Sanctuary can shape its services"

Peter said: “Rose and Rhonda have worked very hard to get the association off the ground, and as a result, we can work closely with them to understand residents’ concerns at Alan Place. Resident involvement is crucial to ensure Sanctuary can shape its services to meet the needs of our tenants.”

Rose said: “We are very happy to receive this recognition on behalf of the residents’ association. Since the association formed, we have been working with Sanctuary to ensure our residents are listened to and we’re pleased to see that things are moving forward to strengthen and improve the community at Alan Place.”

Peter added: “APRA has a lot planned for the summer, and I’m excited to see the outcome!”
