Community cleans up Chard Barton

Clean up of Chard Barton

Sanctuary Shaftesbury staff and residents joined forces to clean-up the community at Chard Barton, a general rented scheme in Plymouth, Devon on Thursday 28th May.

The clean up started at 10am and was organised by Sanctuary Shaftesbury, a member of UK leading housing provider Sanctuary Group, as part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. The event was a huge success, with local children helping to collect two tonnes of household rubbish.

Sanctuary contributed more than £500 towards litter picking equipment and skip hire for the initiative, which is designed to help promote community spirit, strengthen relations and encourage residents to take pride in the area in which they live.

"We all have a responsibility to look after the environment"

Michael Howarth, Sanctuary Shaftesbury’s community development officer, said: “We all have a responsibility to look after the environment and this was an ideal opportunity for us to do our bit.

“It’s also been a great chance for residents to get to know each other better and make their community a cleaner and more pleasant area to live and we would like to thank them all for their fantastic support.”

Local Resident, Ken Watkins said: “It was a welcome opportunity for residents to remove bulky items and the children got involved in the litter picking very enthusiastically.”
