Housing Corporation Chief Visits Hereward Housing

Jon Rouse visit

Hereward Housing marked the day it joined Sanctuary with a visit from The Housing Corporation’s Chief Executive, Jon Rouse and Board Member, Sheila Button. Hereward took the opportunity to showcase the work it has been doing on an estate in Ely to improve life for the local community as well as discuss future development plans.

The recent appointment of a dedicated community worker and taking on the management of community rooms in the heart of the Barns estate has further established Hereward as a community player not just for its own tenants, but for everyone who lives on the estate.

Hereward showcases development plans for Ely which will improve life for the local community.

Hereward’s close working relationship with Cambridgeshire Police was highlighted following successful Closure Orders at two of Hereward’s properties on the estate. Local residents provided evidence of anti-social behaviour at the properties which had blighted their lives. In the two separate raids quantities of drugs were seized by police.

Hereward is now actively seeking possession of the properties. Hereward’s development plans were also outlined with a visit to a nearby site earmarked for new housing. In 2004 Hereward was awarded £5.3 million grant funding over two years by The Housing Corporation. Sanctuary, working with Hereward, is biding for partnership status for future funding allocations as part of a joint effort to deliver more affordable homes in the East of England.
