Beth Johnson
Established in 1975, Stoke-based Beth Johnson Housing Group is a successful and well-established charitable organisation, which provides good quality homes for rent and sale throughout Staffordshire, Shropshire and South Cheshire. Should our discussions be successful, Beth Johnson will be responsible for managing 6,000 Sanctuary homes in the Midlands in addition to their own stock of 4,400 taking and will see our Midlands regional base grow to over 10,000 homes.
Beth Johnson Housing group employs over 200 full and part time staff and has been awarded the Investors in People standard. Sanctuary Housing plans to maintain its existing office in West Bromwich.
ASRA Midlands
Based in Leicester, ASRA Midlands is a non-sectarian black & minority ethnic association whose clear mission is to provide affordable, quality housing and social support to both those with an Asian lifestyle and other people in housing need. They are a very experienced and well-regarded organisation and operate in areas with high black, minority and ethic populations where demand for properties is high.
Should our discussions be successful, ASRA Midlands would be responsible for managing over 500 homes in the region.
What would the proposed joint workings involve?
Should discussions be successful, Beth Johnson Housing Group and ASRA Midlands would become subsidiaries of Sanctuary Housing Association and would be responsible for managing Sanctuary’s homes in their region in addition to their own stock.
Why join forces with other organisations?
There are several key reasons. Both organisations are well-established in the areas in which they operate and so have a strong local presence and dedicated teams of staff in place.
By working together, we have a much better chance of securing grants to enable more affordable homes to be built in the region. Added to which, by creating a bigger and stronger organisation we will have much better ''buying power' and will be able to attract and retain the high quality staff needed to deliver the services you deserve.
What about my rent and/or service charge?
Rents and service charges will not be affected by the proposals.
What are the benefits to us?
We are confident that by working together we can combine our skills and resources and improve services to residents. It will also make it easier for the residents of both organisations to move to properties in other parts of the region thanks to mutual exchanges and transfers.
Hasn't Sanctuary done something similar recently?
Yes, Hereward Housing based in the East of England, recently joined Sanctuary Group following a similar arrangement. As a subsidiary of Sanctuary Housing Group, Hereward now manages Sanctuary's stock of over 2,300 properties in East Anglia in addition to its own stock of over 4,000 properties in the region, operating under the Hereward name.
