Official opening of new homes in Yorkshire

Sanctuary Housing held a celebratory event on Friday, 12th June, to mark the official opening of some much needed affordable accommodation in the villages of Danby and Castleton, North Yorkshire.

Completed in April this year, the 12 homes, six in Danby and six in Castleton, are a mix of two and three-bed family properties made available and let to local residents at affordable rents.

The properties in Danby were built on the land of the Dawnay Estate which was sold to Sanctuary on a 125-year lease by Richard Henry Viscount Downe of the Estate. The homes in Castleton were built at Ash Grove and all have been fully occupied since the spring.

"We are delighted to provide these new homes for local residents"

Friday’s event, which took place at Danby Village Hall, included speeches from Craig Moule, Sanctuary’s Group Director – Finance and Resources, and Pam Reeves of Danby Parish Council.

Guests were then taken on a tour of the properties in Danby before the official ribbon-cutting ceremony outside one of the new homes by young resident Lydia Stephens from Danby Church of England Primary School, who had won a competition to name the road.

Craig Moule said: “The completion of the developments has been the culmination of much hard work from a number of partners and we are delighted to provide these new homes for local residents and contribute to sustaining these local communities.”
