Staff and tenants at a Sanctuary Care scheme are celebrating after it received an ‘excellent’ rating from The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).

Following a spot check inspection at Trellis House in London, it has been upgraded from two stars (good) to three stars (excellent), which is the highest rating from CSCI, the inspectorate for adult social care services in England.

The extra care domiciliary scheme, for 42 adults aged over 60 is run by Sanctuary Care, a subsidiary of leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group.

The report said: "We think that this is an excellent service that is clearly producing very positive outcomes for the people using it.

"The training and supervision of staff is good. The ethos and the values of the manager are visible through the service provided. People living there are treated as individuals and with dignity and respect."

It also highlighted how residents felt safe at the scheme, while at the same time retaining their independence.

The report also revealed how residents spoke very positively about the staff. Quotes included: "they do a great job", "they could not do any more", while one person described a member of staff as "my guardian angel".

Extra care services manager Lynne McKee, who is also manager at the scheme, said: "When I found out we had been upgraded I burst into tears! I just feel so incredibly proud of the staff.

"The inspectors observed the interaction between the tenants and the staff and said how person centred this was."

Trellis House provides care and support services to people living in their own self-contained flats. This ranges from domestic help to full assistance with personal care.
