Sanctuary shortlisted for two National Housing Federation Awards

Sanctuary Housing is in the running for two top awards following the announcement by the National Housing Federation that it has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Neighbour’ and ‘Diversity and Race’ awards.

Sanctuary’s entries were selected by a panel of judges, which includes 60 housing association residents from across the country.

The Neighbourhood Awards celebrate and share the achievements of not-for-profit housing associations and their residents in making their communities better places to live.

Janet Clarke (pictured above), a blind and disabled resident based in Sanctuary’s South East region has been named as best neighbour for her dedication and commitment to the community, including her success in establishing and running a Saturday morning arts and craft club for over 30 children living in a deprived area of East Brighton.

Sanctuary was nominated for the Diversity and Race award for its support of the Canklow Women’s Black and Asian Group which provides a range of courses, including English lessons, to members of the ethnic community who felt isolated as result of their poor communication skills. Based in the Canklow area of Rotherham, members of the Group now play a more meaningful role in the community.

Sanctuary will be attending the Neighbourhood Awards prize ceremony at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre on 21st September, presented by TV personality Eamonn Holmes.
