Sanctuary project shortlisted for prestigious award

Sanctuary is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious UK Housing Award.

The Meadowview Consortium Neighbourhood Worker and Community Development Project in East Brighton is a finalist in the ‘empowering and involving communities’ category of the Inside Housing and Chartered Institute of Housing awards.
Community litter picks and clean-up days are also part of the project.

Sanctuary Group, one of the UK’s leading housing providers, has transformed one of its largest consortium estates in Meadowview, reducing antisocial behaviour, securing funding and resources and helping to make it a better neighbourhood.

After employing one of its tenants as a neighbourhood worker to manage the Meadowview Community Centre, this once underused facility is now a hub of activity, with a parent and toddler group, pre-school and lunchtime clubs and adult art classes.

Other successes include the formation of a Meadowview Community Action Group, where all the post holders are residents.

Community litter picks and clean-up days are also part of the project.

Nick Abbey, Sanctuary’s Group Director - Housing said: “To have been shortlisted for this award is testament to the hard work of our staff, volunteers, partners, and of course the residents of Meadowview.

“We know from what they tell us that this thriving estate has a united community and is a place which residents are truly proud to call home.”

The winner of the awards will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on Thursday, 6th November.
