Two years ago she won the Active Learning Award for Active Citizenship and this year was named as Champion Citizen of Oldbury in Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council’s Lifelong Learning Awards.
Sue said: ”Art is new to me. It all came about when the group went on a trip to the European Union in Brussels. Someone saw a video we had made and suggested that we continue working together and that was how Impact + was born.”
Sue’s art reflects her difficult life experiences – her father died when she was eight-years-old, followed by the deaths of four of her brothers and she was in a troubled marriage for 13 years. She has been happily married to Bill for 18 years and has three children and seven grandchildren.
“I’m just an everyday person and I didn’t feel human sometimes. I’ve been an underdog most of my life and we have residents that can’t always voice an opinion, so this is a way of doing that,” said Sue. “This exhibition is about all our experiences – good and bad – and it’s been very emotional but it was what was inside us. Hopefully we’ll do some more.”
The event runs until Thursday 14th September at Bantock House, Bantock Park, Wolverhampton, 11am to 5pm, with a private viewing on Friday 8th September, 6pm-8pm.
