Brighton and Hove Foyer has been named one of the best foyers in England after achieving the highest marks in the country on the Foyer Federation’s Accreditation Scheme.
The Pelham Street project, which was opened in 1998 by HRH Prince Charles, was one of nine Foyers to be inspected for the re-accreditation process by the Federation this summer and came out on top with a score of 89 out of a possible 110. It was marked on the FISH principles – Foyer, Independence, Support and Housing – and was highly praised for its work with residents.
The Foyer offers accommodation to 50 young people aged between 16 and 25 and provides a holistic service to those who are homeless or in housing need. In addition to accommodation, residents have access to training, educational opportunities and the chance to undertake a City and Guilds Certificate in Self Development Through Learning. They also receive advice, guidance and support to develop personally and make the transition to live independently.

The Foyer Accreditation Panel’s report said: “Brighton and Hove Foyer has an excellent track record of encouraging young people to make their voices heard and good progression into education and work. The Foyer demonstrates a flair and capacity for innovation and an entrepreneurial approach. It exemplifies very well the Foyer ethos and can be held up as an example of the movement as a whole.”
