Tenants on the Shiregreen estate in Sheffield, which featured in the film ‘The Full Monty’, have voted to transfer their homes to Sanctuary Housing Association and launch a £91 million improvement programme.
Sheffield City Council balloted 2,600 tenants from the estate and the result, announced on 11th November, revealed that an overwhelming number of tenants were in support of the proposals - 86% voted in favour of transferring their homes to Sanctuary Housing from the council. The turnout was high with over 71% of residents casting their vote.
Said David Gooch, Sanctuary Housing’s head of regeneration: “I am delighted that the tenants have had the opportunity to have their say through this ballot.
“This positive result sends the clear message that tenants are confident in Sanctuary’s ability to provide them with the promised package of improvements and we now forward to working with residents to completely transform the area and inject new life into Shiregreen estate.”
