Local women entrepreneurs put their business skills on display at an event in the Limehouse Fields Residents Association Hall in Stepney on September 15. The Mina Bazaar, supported by Sanctuary Housing Association, provides the opportunity for local small businesses, which include the clothing, catering and entertainment sectors, to raise their profile.
The one day event was organised by the Limehouse Project, which was established to provide a diverse range of family support, welfare benefits, immigration and nationality advice and an education service specially designed for women who are unable to access the mainstream education and training services.
Tower Hamlets contains the largest concentration of Bangladeshis outside Bangladesh. The Limehouse Project is helping to realise the aspirations of the most deprived members of these local communities, particularly those of children, young people, and women.
"enable women to gain the confidence and skills to play a full role in their social and economic environment, providing freedom from dependency"
The Mina Bazaar was just one initiative which will enable women to gain the confidence and skills to play a full role in their social and economic environment, providing freedom from dependency.
Nazim Rahman, Senior Regeneration Officer at Sanctuary said: “The importance of the services provided by the Limehouse Project are highlighted by the fact that very little provision in the area exists for the isolated Bengali speaking population. Sanctuary is therefore delighted to support the growth and development of new business enterprises in the Tower Hamlets area.”
