John Kirk House is a purpose built home for 16 adults with a learning and physical disability. The home comprises of two floors the ground floor is suitable to people with physical disabilities, the second floor is accessible via stairs. There is no lift.
The home is divided in to four separate flats; each room contains a shared kitchen, lounge, bathroom and WC. All rooms have a built in wardrobe and an alarm call system. There is also a single flat with its own lounge, kitchen, bathroom and WC.
The aims of the home are to support the residents to maintain and learn new life skills to be able to live as independent as is possible. To live in and to actively be a part of the community.
Facilities
The home is purpose built and anticipated to meet your needs with sufficient WC and bathrooms to accommodate 14 service users. All bedrooms have a wash basin installed. All rooms are well decorated and maintained with plenty of space for personal possessions and you are encouraged to personalise your own room by having the choice to bring your own furniture if you wish subject to fire regulations.
We have shared lounge areas where you can meet other residents and chat over a cup of tea or entertain visitors. Service areas are also available to residents that wish to make a cup of tea or coffee. We also have a TV lounge, though you may wish to install your own television in your room.
Staffing
All Sanctuary Care Homes are staffed 24 hours a day by suitably trained and experiences nursing and care staff.
All homes employ a head chef and experienced catering and domestic staff.
Staffing levels meet all the requirements set by CSCI.
Activities
All Service users are offered the opportunity to participate in the in house activities and are supported by staff if needed.
All interests and hobbies are encouraged and the service users are supported to use local facilities.
Day to day activities may include board games, bingo, dominoes, teleision and video, music and tapes, occasional outside entertainers, skittles, books, quizzes and knitting.
Personal care
All staff provides care and support to the service users and encourages them to be as independent as possible. Allowing privacy when needed.
Each service user is allocated a key worker, the key worker supports the service user with all their needs including cultural and religious
Residents involvement
Service users have regular meetings and are actively involved in all care reviews.
The views of service users are sought in the form of a questionnaire which can be kept anonymous or service users have the choice of stating their names.
