Livingstone House is a registered care home, offering accommodation for 19 people with learning disabilities, providing professional support and care, while promoting independence, in a friendly, homely atmosphere.
The home is set over four floors, divided into five flats, with each resident having their own single room, as well as the use of communal lounge, bathroom and/or shower and kitchen/diner. There is a communal lounge and activity room on the ground floor, and a multi sensory room on the second floor.
There is a rear garden that is accessible to all residents and a large car park at the front of the home.
Facilities
Livingstone House has a laundry room, which consists of two industrial washing machines with sluice facilities and two industrial tumble dryers.
Each flat has a domestic style kitchen and used by the residents on that flat.
At Livingstone we have a white room, for use by the service users under staff supervision. We also have access to Hydrotherapy.
Staffing
All Sanctuary Care Homes are staffed 24 hours a day by suitably trained and experiences nursing and care staff.
All homes employ a head chef and experienced catering and domestic staff.
Staffing levels meet all the requirements set by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).
Support
Although residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible, staff are on hand to give support in all aspects of daily life, for example personal care, shopping, appointments, church attendance, visits to pubs, clubs and cinema. All residents are encouraged to access the community.
Residents' Involvement
Residents are involved in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the home, such as interviewing new staff, choosing menus, arranging outings/visits, choosing curtains and furnishings. Each resident is assigned a key worker to assist them with their daily living. Residents’ meetings take place once a month to enable them to air their views on anything they wish. Visitors are always welcome.
Activities
Residents are supported to attend day centres, college or adult learning centres and work placements of their choice.
Annual holidays; day trips to the coast, cinema, theatre, circus, swimming, bowling, pub/ meals out, football matches and horse racing are all arranged and supported by staff at the residents’ request. There are craft work materials and jigsaw puzzles accessible to all, and support is given to residents who have their personal computers etc.
Residents also attend a local club, church coffee mornings, and church services.
Personal Care
All residents will receive medical and nursing care in private, provded by GP or Community Nurse and they will be able to retain the doctor of their choice.
Physiotherapy, Chiropody, dental care and optical care are all available at an extra cost.
