“We enjoyed it immensely,” he said. “The carers were extremely good and the residents seemed to be happy and seemed to like it very much.”
Guests, which included Sanctuary staff, Sanctuary Care’s dementia lead Maria Parsons, contractors and representatives from local businesses, saw Councillor Richards unveil a commemorative plaque and enjoyed a guided tour of the new facilities, followed by a buffet lunch.
Steve Wood, managing director of Sanctuary Care, said: “Dementia is a debilitating disease and providing specialist care and surroundings such as this can help to alleviate some of the symptoms, while at the same time create a calming environment.
“We are truly proud of what we have achieved at The Rosary and know that this wing will provide a safe haven for people suffering from dementia.”
The 40-bed wing incorporates fundamental design features used to create an environment that helps improve the quality of life for those with dementia, such as the use of contrasting colours and visual images to help identify rooms and reduce confusion.
Sanctuary Care is also refurbishing the main building at The Rosary, to provide residents with the highest levels of comfort throughout the entire home.
