Purplett House is an independent living unit offering a residential environment for 10 adults with physical disabilities. The building comprises a lounge, conservatory, communal dining area and a laundry.
Residents use Purplett house to gain independent living skills, which enables them choices on where and how to live with the support structure that is necessary to meet their needs, they are assisted with the processes needed to enable them to move on into the community of their choice.
Facilities
The home comprises single bedrooms with “en-suite” facilities. Bedrooms are furnished including carpets and curtains. Residents are encouraged to bring personal items to make the room individual to them.
Activities
All residents are encouraged to participate in outside activities to enable them to integrate within the community. The residents also like to be involved in activities within the home. The local college is accessible and offers courses for all needs. The volunteer bureau is a good resource and enables residents to get involved with the local community.
Staffing
The home provides 24 hour support and is provided by a professional staff team with assistance from outside professionals specialising in different areas and expertise.
Staffing levels meet all the requirements set by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).
Personal care
Staff are available to support residents who need assistance however residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible. The occupational therapist is requested to visit when a resident comes for their initial assessment stay to assess if any specialist equipment is needed. This will be provided by the local/health authority. Residents are provided with a keyworker ensuring quality of care is met.
Meals are provided.
Residents' Involvement
The residents have regular meetings and like to chair the meetings themselves. They do request a staff member to take the minutes. They participate in quality assurance questionnaires. Residents are encouraged to assist in the recruiting of new staff.
Residents meet with the cook on a regular basis to discuss different options on the menu.
