Housing for older people

Providing good quality housing for older people, at affordable rents, throughout the region.

Sanctuary Hereward has the proud reputation of being an excellent provider of housing for older people. Our sheltered housing and extra care schemes give homes to over 1,000 people in the region. So whether you prefer the hustle and bustle of a city or town or find the peace and quiet of a small village more to your liking, Sanctuary Hereward has a scheme to suit your needs.

Sheltered Housing - Independent living for older people

Sanctuary Hereward owns 25 housing schemes with flats and/or bungalows for older people to rent. All these sheltered housing schemes are in East Cambridgeshire and benefit from having their own scheme manager, who usually lives on site.

The key to Sanctuary Hereward's success is the emphasis on our tenants’ independence and security. They and their families have the peace of mind that, with an alarm system fitted in every property, help is only a buzz away. In an emergency either the on-call scheme manager or a control centre will be alerted.

You can find our sheltered housing schemes in:

Ashley, Burrough Green, Cheveley, Ely, Fordham, Haddenham, Isleham, Little Downham, Littleport, Soham, Stetchworth, Stretham, Sutton, Swaffham Bulbeck, Wilburton and Witchford.

Sanctuary Hereward also manages three housing schemes with flats for older people to rent on behalf of Sanctuary Housing across the East Region in Ipswich, Debenham and Rayleigh. These have their own scheme manager who usually lives on site. There is general needs housing for older people at Elgar Close, Buckhurst Hill, Essex and Mayfield Avenue, Hockley, Essex.

Extra Care Housing - A higher level of care according to individual needs

Sanctuary Hereward owns and manages five extra care schemes with self-contained flats for rent by frail, older people in the region. They are in Burwell, Ely, March, Sawston and Soham. Work on Hereward’s sixth extra care scheme started in January 2006 in Exning, Suffolk.

Extra care housing offers independence but with individually assessed care to help make life easier. Social Services, Methodist Homes Care and Fenland Premier Care provide care services and staff at our schemes.
