Sanctuary Hereward, in partnership with other voluntary and statutory organisations, works to help create neighbourhoods in which people want to live and work for current and future generations. We set out how we plan to work towards sustainable communities in our Sustainable Communities strategy and Action Plan (available on request).
The aims of our Sustainable Communities Strategy are:
1. To identify the “well-being” needs of our residents and local people which need to be addressed in creating and sustaining communities where people want to live.
2. To provide appropriate support and resources (e.g. use of premises, staff, funds/grants) to actively work in partnership with strategic agencies, voluntary organisations and local people to plan and implement community initiatives to address the identified needs of our residents and local people.
3. To develop, monitor and review a Sustainable Community Action Plan which builds on local community needs and capacities, supports our core business of providing good quality affordable homes and improves the quality of the life in the neighbourhood in which we operate. This will be prioritised for the key areas of Ely, Littleport, Soham and Burwell.
4. To actively engage and support residents and other local people in the development and running of community based projects that address identified areas of concern and so improve the well being of our residents and the wider community and help increase the community spirit in these areas.
One of the projects supported by our Sustainable Communities Strategy is the Barns Initiative in Ely. More information on this will be available shortly.
