A new look Stoke Park

The Stoke Park estate in Ipswich is to get a bright new look after residents were consulted. Scores of residents turned out for the meeting to choose the colour for the balconies and the decision was to have silver panels with a blue handrail with three steel panels on each balcony.

Residents said that steel was a better choice than wood or plastic which could be easily damaged by fire or vandalism. Steel was also better for safety reasons and will have a life span of about 25 years with lower maintenance needs. It will also look more modern and if one panel is damaged it can be easily replaced instead of having to swop the whole balcony.

Housing Officer Mandy Dales (seen in picture above) said: “All this work is part of our plan to improve conditions at Stoke Park.” Hereward manages the Stoke Park estate on behalf of Sanctuary Housing.

Work will start shortly on blocks 279-301 and Housing Officer Mandy Dales said: “The other blocks will follow and we will keep all other residents fully in the picture as the work progresses.”

At the same time work is expected to start on the door entry systems to the three blocks at Downside Close and all of Alderlee. The panels at the front and porches will be taken down and replaced with stainless steel surroundings and glass with a door entry system for security.

Wooden doors will be replaced with strong security glass to make the stairwells lighter and entry will be by using a special fob.Extensive work has also been done to keep bins safe and secure. Previously there was no set place for the industrial bins but designated areas have now been created with slabbing and fencing.
