The secret of a very long life

No smoking, no drinking and plenty of exercise is the secret of a long life according to Victor Woollard.

Victor celebrated his 100th birthday with a party at Somerset Court, the Hereward Housing Sheltered Scheme at Cheveley near Newmarket where he has lived for over 10 years.

Picture shows Victor Woollard cutting his 100th birthday cake at his party at Somerset Court.

As he opened his congratulatory card from The Queen, Victor said: “I have never smoked or had a drink and when I was younger, I used to ride a bike everywhere. It has all helped to keep me going.”

Victor has four daughters and several generations of his family attended the birthday party on 6 February.

He is still very active as a lay preacher and just a few days earlier had preached at the local Methodist Church.

Wife Queenie, who was also a lay preacher, died some years ago but Victor said; “My faith in God has also helped me a great deal.”
