Domestic Combined Heat and Power (DCHP)

This acts likes a normal high efficiency gas boiler (overall efficiency is 92 per cent), providing heat and hot water, but also drives a generator to produce electricity which can either be used to power appliances in the home or can be sold back to the grid.

Funding is available from the Department of Trade and Industry's Low Carbon Building Programme.

Sanctuary Housing Group projects:

Sanctuary Housing Association has met with a representative from Energy for Sustainable Development (ESD). We are keen to trial the DCHP units either in well insulated, larger, new build properties or smaller, hard to treat properties.

We have been told that these trial units will be available in 2007. In the meantime we will visit an eco house at Nottingham University to see the DCHP unit working first hand.

This page will be updated following the visit.
