Over two million homes in Britain do not have a mains gas supply but wherever there is mains electricity, electric boilers offer the comfort and convenience of wet central heating and hot water supply.
In well insulated homes they are more economical than the usual electric storage heating system. Utility suppliers also offer special tariffs for electric boiler systems such as the Economy 10 tariff which makes the running cost less than for storage heating.
