Sanctuary has a Group structure, in which Sanctuary Housing Association is the parent company with a number of subsidiary operations within its control. Sanctuary, as the registered social landlord, is responsible for regulatory compliance.
Having a Group structure provides a framework which enables the proper control and risk management of our diverse operations and ensures that each element of the operation continues to develop successfully.
Sanctuary’s Group Board comprises eight voluntary non executive members, one executive member (the Group Chief Executive) and two co-opted members (the Group Finance and Resources Director). The Group Board oversees all of the activities undertaken by the organisation: social housing, care, domiciliary care, and management services.
The Group Board delegates day to day management of activities to the Group Executive, which is chaired and appointed by David Bennett, Group Chief Executive. Whilst operating activities are undertaken by the subsidiary companies, support services, such as human resources, finance and information systems are provided centrally.
The Group Board’s primary role is to define and ensure compliance with Sanctuary’s values and objectives. It agrees the strategic direction of the organisation and makes sure that policies and plans are in place to achieve those objectives. It also establishes and oversees a framework of delegation and systems of control. Responsibility for overseeing audit matters is delegated to the Group Audit Committee whilst the Group Housing Committee is responsible for reviewing affordable housing performance indicators and policy. The Remuneration Committee meets to determine the remuneration of the Group Executive Directors.
