Sanctuary is investigating a number of options to improve energy efficiency and you can find out more about them here.

The Government has introduced legislation to ensure that organisations such as local authorities and housing associations contribute to the UK's environmental targets to reduce carbon emissions.

Sanctuary has made a formal commitment to energy efficiency - striving to deliver affordable warmth to the association's tenants, recognising that energy efficiency measures, including the introduction of renewable sources of energy, improve the quality of housing. This will help bring warmer, healthier homes to the old and vulnerable.

We are delighted to report that Sanctuary's combined heat and power initiative was commissioned week commencing 05/02/2007. Watch this space for performance updates when they become available.

The Government's UK Fuel Poverty Strategy is committed to eradicating fuel poverty among vulnerable households by 2010. This problem is of particular concern to Registered Social Landlords as they house the highest concentration of people likely to be viewed as fuel-poor.

In existing stock, the higher running costs of homes without access to mains gas means that there is a clear connection between householders living in a home with no gas supply and householders living in fuel poverty.

Oil, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and electricity are more expensive than gas and lead to higher carbon dioxide emissions.

Sanctuary Housing Group projects - Pound Farm to pilot renewable technology

Pound Farm, Gorsley is a supported housing scheme on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye. Sanctuary Housing Association are looking to work with our managing agents – Salters Hill Trust to install and evaluate renewable energy systems. Our current plans include the possibility of:

Improvements to the buildings are planned to increase the effectiveness of these measures that include:

  • External wall insulation to the house
  • Installation of UPVC double glazing
