Beth Johnson Housing Association is committed to consulting and engaging with residents on decisions and matters of importance. Below are just some of the methods used to do this.
The Resident Involvement Committee
Beth Johnson’s Resident Involvement Committee (RIC) forms part of Beth Johnson’s governance structure and is the main resident consultative and advisory forum for the Association.
The Committee has the opportunity to comment on policies and procedures, service reviews, reports and attends a wide range of training events. It also gets involved in local, projects and through the Beth Johnson Community Fund can allocate funding to community projects.
Tenant Auditing Project
This initiative enables our residents to monitor, test and, where appropriate, recommend ways in which our services can be improved. All tenant auditors receive training to help them to perform this role.
Residents taking the Lead
We have supported the formation of residents associations in various locations, particularly within our sheltered schemes. These groups have been very active in raising funds and organising events and activities. Examples include:
- The creation of a mini-gym at Moorlands Court
- The community shop at Etruria Locks
- Social events and outings
Community Events
Leaseholders Forum
The Community Engagement Team convenes Leaseholders Forum meetings. The Forum is in place to discuss specific issues that concern Leaseholders.
The idea for the forum came from the independent customer satisfaction survey carried out last year. The team initially held a number of local meetings with leaseholders to gauge interest for such a forum.
Working in Partnership
The Community Engagement Team is constantly working in partnership with other landlords. The Team currently sits on several regional networking groups dedicated to community participation. These groups have organised a number of events and training sessions.
Examples include:
- Tenants Conference (held for the last 6 years)
- Resident consultation events
- Sharing of best practise ideas
- Exchanging of information
Community Fund
The Beth Johnson Community Fund has been set up to give small grants to community-run projects which benefit Beth Johnson residents. In order to spread the Fund as widely as possible the maximum grant initially will be £200.
Most of the funding will go towards supporting Christmas events and activities. Successful applicants are asked to complete a feedback form to enable RIC members to evaluate the benefits of the grants awarded.
Please contact the Community Engagement Team for further information or to get involved.
