Regeneration

Regeneration and modernisation helps to put new heart into run down areas and remains at the very core of our social housing activity.

Sanctuary is accomplished in the regeneration and development of council stock transfers.

Training and jobs for local people

In all our regeneration projects we identify training and employment needs for the benefit of tenants and the community as a whole. We aim to link our investment programmes with local employment and training initiatives. This usually involves supporting local employers to generate more jobs for local people, particularly in rural areas.

We also try to address skills shortages in the construction industry by working with contractors and suppliers to recruit local people onto apprenticeship schemes. We aim, wherever possible, to provide further training and education opportunities in association with local colleges, home based learning and 'on the job' training.

Our regeneration schemes have also created IT, administrative and managerial job opportunities for local poeple.

A safe and pleasant neighbourhood

Sanctuary takes a hard line on anti-social behaviour. Working with tenants and the wider community we have been successful in tackling anti-social behaviour, nuisance and harassment across the country.
Some of the things we have done include:

  • Implementing Good Neighbourhood Declarations
  • Employing neighbourhood wardens
  • Installing CCTV and better lighting
  • Eliminating problem areas through careful design
  • Setting up youth projects to channel youngpeople’s energy positively and productively

Quality service from a quality organisation

  • Sanctuary has been awarded two stars out of a maximum of three by the Audit Commission
  • Sanctuary has been awarded the Code of Practice certificate by the Centre for Sheltered Housing Studies
  • The Association has been given green lights in all key performance areas by the Housing Corporation, theGovernment’s regulator
  • Sanctuary has Investor in People status
  • Sanctuary has been assigned ‘Aa2’ and ‘A’ rating by the leading credit rating agencies
  • The first UK housing association to be awarded the Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) quality mark

Creating a better place to live

We believe that providing quality homes is just part of the picture. Our aim is to inject new heart and hope into areas to create safe, quality environments where people want to live.

Community-led regeneration

We want to make a difference in the areas in which we operate. Sanctuary will work in partnership with residents to transform neighbourhoods into thriving communities, creating a more desirable place to live.

We believe that residents' aspirations for their home and neighbourhood should influence everything we do.

When it comes to the modernisation of homes, residents will have real choices. When it comes to the management of their neighbourhood, residents will have real influence.

Providing more than just homes

Sanctuary and its subsidiaries also provide funding for a wide range of community based projects in the neighbourhoods we manage.

By providing help and support, we have helped turn many of our residents’ visions and ideas into reality. Examples include the creation of a new bowling green at Ardler in Scotland and a resource centre and computer suite at Cavendish Mill in Ashton under Lyne, which was set up for residents and the neighbouring community.
