Sanctuary Speed Networking Event

Sanctuary Housing London held an event with a twist on modern-day speed dating – in a bid to find that perfect partner or two.

Sanctuary entertained almost 50 guests at its speed networking event on Thursday February 15 at the Institute of Directors, Waterloo Room in Pall Mall, London. The ‘date’ was an opportunity to meet representatives from various housing associations, local authorities, property developers and businesses.

Sharon Standell, director of Sanctuary London, acted as host for the event, opening the proceedings with a speech and an explanation of the rules. The idea was simple – guests spent three minutes talking to someone they did not know about their organisation, role and the type of projects they were interested in before moving onto meet someone else at the sound of the whistle. Attendees enjoyed each other’s company and swapped contact details with numerous people with the aim of working together in the future.

Ms Standell said: "This was a first for Sanctuary London and a fantastic success. Some guests clearly arrived not knowing what to expect but everyone quickly entered into the spirit of the event and made some great contacts for future projects and initiatives. As Sanctuary goes from strength to strength, it is great to know how many partners we have to face the challenges ahead."

In all, eighteen rounds of speed networking were carried out before ending with some time to mingle and socialise. There were drinks and canapés, including strawberries dipped in chocolate and passion fruit tartlets as it was the night after Valentine's Day.

Sanctuary Speed Networking Event with the aim of working together in the future is a great success.

Sanctuary’s performance and innovation coordinator Meghan Zinkewich Peotti organised the get-together. She said: “You often find that when you are on a course or at a conference, the best part of the day is when you meet new people in the breaks, over drinks or coffee. This concept is the perfect way to network, forming valuable partnerships, making useful new contacts and discussing ideas with others.”

Sally Ingham, business development manager with John Laing Partnership said: "Sanctuary's speed networking was something a bit different. From the start it removed any awkwardness in approaching new faces and really encouraged people to mingle and circulate, allowing the time at the end to pick up with those where conversation was cut short by the whistle."

Chris Skinner from Coffin Mew & Clover Solicitors said: "We were delighted to support the event. Fast, fun and very informative, it gave us the opportunity to meet some of the many organisations that work with Sanctuary – and provided a valuable insight into different areas of work that Sanctuary undertake."

Barbara Cook, management development consultant said: "I thought the event was innovative and interesting. As a freelance consultant, it gave me the opportunity to meet more potential clients in a few hours than I might normally meet in a few months. I left the event with one definite offer of work and a few 'interested parties' to follow up. It was an enjoyable evening in pleasant surroundings and it was well worth making the effort to attend."
