Sanctuary's resident engagement policy was reviewed in April 2005 and contains a vision statement agreed with residents at Focus groups in February and March 2005 which states:
- Sanctuary Housing Association will work together with our residents in the development and management of their homes in order to improve their environment, the quality of life for all and to create cohesive communities.
- We will inform, consult and involve our residents in a variety of ways.
We will listen to their views and recognise the skills and knowledge they have to offer.
- We will provide support and training for staff and residents to develop the knowledge, skills, capability and confidence so that everyone involved is able to work successfully together.

Sanctuary welcomes the involvement of residents in the work of the Association. This does not mean you have to give up lots of your time - our intention is to make it as easy as possible for residents to have a say.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved:
- by reading New Signal or other Sanctuary newsletters
- responding to articles in newsletters or sending us your stories
- returning questionnaires which are circulated from time to time
- attending a residents conference
- participating in a focus group
- commenting on issues (join our database of residents)
- attending a scheme meeting or coffee morning
- attending a residents committee or panel
- joining a regional or central committee
Please contact your regional office to find out what is available in your area. Many of our residents have already done so and are making a significant impact.
