The Boards of Cumbernauld Housing Partnership (CHP) and Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association have announced that both organisations are actively exploring CHP joining Sanctuary Scotland as a subsidiary.
Sanctuary Scotland, a member of Sanctuary Housing Group which manages over 63,000 homes throughout England and Scotland, is responsible for just under 2,000 homes, mainly in Glasgow and Dundee, where the emphasis has been on community regeneration.
Teams from both organisations are now working up the detail of the business case for the wider group and the benefits for tenants and other service users, the staff of CHP and Sanctuary Scotland and other partners.
Tenants and others will be fully consulted on developing the proposals and more details on how tenants and others that get services from CHP can be involved in this will follow.
Alex Clark, Chair of Cumbernauld Housing Partnership said:
“CHP has come a long way in recent months. Our services and governance are now much more focused. But the Board has unanimously agreed we can only reach the level we want to, as a landlord, factor of choice and as a leading organisation in North Lanarkshire, by being part of a wider group. As a Board we are genuinely excited by the service and regeneration track record that Sanctuary Scotland offers us.”
Ken Gibb, Chair of Sanctuary Scotland said:
“We are delighted that CHP has chosen to join Sanctuary Scotland. Working together we believe we can combine our expertise and draw on each other’s strengths to develop highly effective and efficient services for our local communities. We believe that the new working arrangement will allow us to bring about improvements for residents right across Scotland and we look forward to working with CHP in the future.”
The Boards of both organisations will be asked to consider detailed plans later in the year that it is hoped will allow CHP to join Sanctuary Scotland’s group early in 2008.
CHP will continue to be the landlord of the properties that it currently owns.
