Fire doors

Fire doors are designed to ensure that should a fire break out, it can be contained in a “compartment”. This keeps the fire and smoke trapped for a defined period, allowing time for people to get out and make the fire easier to tackle.

Please keep all fire doors closed, especially those in communal areas.  A fire door propped open will not perform its main job.

Whilst we’ve all probably been guilty at some point of wedging a fire door open, if a fire breaks out it can be a matter of life or death.

Do not wedge them open at any time. If you see a fire door wedged open, please shut it.

If you live in a flat, your front door must close unaided by a door closer. Door closers make sure the door always closes behind you. Check to make sure your closer is in good working order and the door fits in the frame. There are different types of door closers and yours may not be at the top of the door, but they all work in the same way.

If you think anything is wrong with a fire door in your property, call us as soon as you can on 0800 131 3348 (0300 123 3511 from a mobile).
