Boxercise, pilates and yoga are just some of the low-cost fitness sessions on offer to residents in Blacon as part of a programme to encourage people to get energised in the run up to Christmas.
Sanctuary Housing supports sports and fitness activities in Blacon
Sanctuary Housing, Avenue Services and Active Cheshire have teamed up to provide sports and fitness activities as part of the exciting Energise Blacon programme.
Energise Blacon is part of Sanctuary’s Love Sport programme
Energise Blacon forms part of Sanctuary’s national Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in Blacon and three further Sanctuary neighbourhoods.
Yoga, pilates and boxercise at the Parade Enterprise Centre
Sessions are held at the Dance Studio in the Community Rooms of the Parade Enterprise Centre, with yoga from 11am to noon on Tuesdays, boxercise from 7.30 to 8.30pm on Wednesdays and pilates from 11am to noon on Thursdays.
Circuits for beginners at Matthew Henry Church
Further activities include circuits for beginners for over 18s on Mondays between 5.30 to 6.15pm at Matthew Henry Church, Nevin Road, Blacon.
Multi-sports sessions at Blacon High School’s Sports Hall
Free multi-sports sessions for 10 to 14 year-olds, including basketball, hockey and dodgeball, are held on Fridays from 5.30 to 8.30pm at Blacon High School’s Sports Hall. With different activities each week and rewards of offer for five weeks of participation, this is a great way for young people to have fun and get more physically active.
Free football sessions at Blacon Adventure Playground
Free football sessions for 11 to 18 year-olds are being held at the Activity Centre, Blacon Adventure Playground, on Kipling Road, from 6.30 to 9pm on Thursdays. There are also walking football taster sessions at Cairns Crescent from 1 to 3pm on Tuesday 3 November. Weekly walking football activities for men and women of all abilities will start from 5 to 6pm from Thursday 12 November at Blacon High School Sports Hall.
Free Blacon Running Club sessions for over 18s
Blacon Running Club is holding free sessions for 18-year-olds plus on Wednesdays from 6 to 7pm, starting at Edgerton Park Road.
Sanctuary working in partnership with Sport England
Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme, which aims to get more than 2,250 residents across the country taking part in sport and fitness activities, has been match-funded by Sport England through National Lottery investment.
Meera Murali, Sanctuary Housing’s Love Sport project coordinator, said: “You can try a different sport each week for free or at low cost at Blacon High School and get fit for Christmas. All abilities are welcome and we would like to see as many Blacon residents as possible getting energised.”
