People of all ages came together at the Parade Enterprise Centre in Blacon for a real community celebration to mark the Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The new Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Alex Black, and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Janet Black, were joined by pupils from local schools, residents from care homes and community volunteers for the celebration, organised by Avenue Services.

The Parade Enterprise Centre was decked out in patriotic bunting and decorations for the event, with guests tucking into a celebratory afternoon tea and enjoying getting to know others from the local community.

Sandra Hewitt, neighbourhood and localities officer for Avenue Services, said: “There has been such excitement for the Royal Wedding around Blacon and so we wanted to break out the bunting and bring older and younger people from our community together to enjoy a truly intergenerational celebration.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we were honoured and delighted the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Chester were able to join us for the occasion.”

Cllr Black commented: “Janet and I have spent a lot of time in Blacon over the last 40 years or more and we have made lots of friends there, so it was good to visit the Parade Enterprise Centre to meet old friends and make new ones on this happy occasion.

“The people of Blacon are always very welcoming.”

Avenue Services, which is a not-for-profit organisation, is a joint venture between Sanctuary Group and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
