Blacon residents invited to get energised

14 July 2015

The launch of an exciting new sport and fitness programme in Blacon will give residents the chance to get energised whilst having fun.

Sanctuary Housing and Avenue Services have joined forces with Active Cheshire to bring the community Energise Blacon.

The programme will see the delivery of a range of exciting and low-cost sport and fitness sessions to residents of all ages including multi-sports for young people, boxing, running and bootcamps.

Energise Blacon will kick-off with a free ‘Give it a Go taster day’ for the community on Tuesday 21 July between 11am and 3pm at Queen Elizabeth Playing Fields. As well as a range of activities for residents to try their hand at, there will be free food provided.

Energise Blacon forms part of Sanctuary’s wider Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in four neighbourhoods across the country and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents in sport and fitness activities.

Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sport and activity sessions.

Janet Gittins, Avenue Services neighbourhoods manager, commented: “Following the success of our other local sport and fitness programmes, we are delighted to be able to offer Blacon residents this exciting range of activities that will not only get them fit but allow them to have fun in the process.

“In addition to helping people get active, we want them to see the health and well-being benefits associated with these types of programmes, encourage them to increase confidence and develop skills which will help them in the future.”
