The Shiregreen Garden Competition 2015, supported by Sanctuary Housing, is set to give Shiregreen gardeners the opportunity to demonstrate their green-fingered skills and showcase their prize patches.
Categories on offer
Opening for Shiregreen residents on Friday 31 July, community members are invited to enter photographs of their summer garden for the chance to win £30 of gardening vouchers in one of three categories – best smaller garden, greenest garden and best original garden.
The winners will be welcomed to a presentation in September where they will be awarded their prizes.
Last year’s Shiregreen Garden Competition winner
Last year’s winner, Anita Eales, won with a garden full of diverse textures, heights and sizes. Her creative use of flower pots in the space added a rainbow of colours making the garden bright and cheerful.
Anita said: “I couldn’t believe it when my husband called to say I had won first prize in the garden competition, I had to speak to someone from Sanctuary before I could believe my luck.”
Sanctuary’s director of neighbourhoods, Colleen Eccles, added: “There are some very picturesque gardens on show in Shiregreen and it’s great that we’re able to showcase and celebrate our residents’ work in this way.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to support the development of successful and sustainable communities by marking local talent and rewarding hard work.”
