Residents and community groups who go the extra mile in Hackney to make a difference in their neighbourhood are to be honoured at an awards ceremony.

Nominations for Sanctuary Housing’s fourth Hackney Community Awards open on 1 April to celebrate the achievements of people of all ages and backgrounds who make a positive impact on the lives of others.

There are six award categories, including the Valerie Forde Good Neighbour Award and the Young Leader Award for 10 to 25-year-olds who have led positive community action within their neighbourhood.

The Wellbeing Champion Award recognises those who promote healthy and active lives, while the Community Empowerment Award is for an individual or organisation that has provided training or instilled confidence.

Environmentally aware residents and groups can be put forward for the Green Hero Award and the Spotlight Award is in recognition of bringing people together to enjoy art, craft, drama, music and creativity.

Winners will be announced at an evening of entertainment and celebration at the Yard Theatre on Friday 30 June.

Toby Moore, Sanctuary’s neighbourhoods partnerships manager, said: “There are many unsung heroes in Hackney who do amazing work to make their community an exciting and vibrant place to live.

“This is our opportunity to publicly recognise their efforts and we look forward to receiving as many entries as possible.”
