Chester residents’ association delivers support and supplies

A Chester residents’ association has supported more than 600 families with essential supplies during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Each week, volunteers from Kingsway and Newton Residents Association (KANRA) deliver around 30 emergency food parcels to residents in the Kingsway area.

KANRA has also been collecting and delivering prescriptions for people who are self-isolating, as well as running a ‘Kids Bank’ at its community hub in Kingsway, where families can access nappies, books, toys and DVDs.

The association’s Covid-19 response work has been funded by Sanctuary Housing and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Ann Charlton, a KANRA volunteer, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to the organisations that support us for continuing to recognise our value in the community.

“Everyone has really pulled together and our volunteers have tried to be flexible and to lend people a hand when needed. We’ve had lots of lovely thank you cards so we know the work is appreciated.”

Ria Burns, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, added: “This is a great example of residents coming together to look after each other.

“KANRA is providing a fantastic service for the local community and we’re proud to be able to show our support.”

This project is part-funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
