Children's activities boost for Shiregreen

10 March 2014

Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre has kicked off an exciting range of weekly activities for young people thanks to a £10,000 grant from Awards for All and The Big Lottery Fund.

Staff from local housing provider, Shiregreen Community Homes, helped the centre’s volunteers apply for funding to host an array of activities for young people at Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre throughout 2014.

The funding has paid for new equipment for the centre, which is used by Activity Sheffield during their weekly multi-sport sessions. Additional funded activities include; Wednesday Drama Club by A Mind Apart and a spring and summer programme of outdoor fun delivered by the River Stewardship Company.

Julie-Ann Fabian, chair of Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre, said: “The funding is a massive boost for the area. The centre now owns lots of equipment for young people to use and parents are welcome to use our facilities whilst children enjoy the sessions.”

Colleen Eccles, Sanctuary’s Director of Neighbourhoods, added: “Imaginative activities for young people are always popular locally and we are really pleased to be able to support this initiative.”
