Hundreds of local youngsters are benefiting from two clubs in Torbay, with one of the services receiving an award.
Duo of clubs
Both funded by Sanctuary Housing, the groups – the Acorn ‘Pop In’ Youth Café and Chelston Action Group (CAG) youth club – collectively support more than 200 young people and children around the Bay.
CAG youth club
Located in Torquay, the CAG youth club is based in the heart of a large residential area where it can sometimes be difficult for young people to find something positive to take part in.
CAG’s youth club offers a variety of sessions focused on topics such as cooking, crafting and sports. Local adults can also get involved through volunteering roles available at the club.
Acorn Youth Café
Also based in Torquay at the Acorn Community Centre, the Acorn Youth Café provides exciting activities for Bay youngsters. Sessions cater for eight to 18-year-olds and work experience opportunities are available.
Torbay Community Star Awards
The centre’s chairperson, Marilyn Martin, was recently recognised for her commitment to improving the lives of Torbay youngsters by receiving Sanctuary’s Torbay Community Star Award for June.
“Delighted to offer funding and support”
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Lynne Roberts, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer funding and support to these clubs, which both provide invaluable services for Torbay youngsters.
“I would urge any local resident who has had positive experiences with either group to cast a nomination in our Torbay Community Star Awards.”
Nominate for an award
Residents can nominate any Sanctuary-supported project or individual for an award. Votes can be cast via our online nomination form or nomination forms are available from Great Parks Community Centre and the Crafty Fox Café ‘N’ Hub in Paignton, as well as the Acorn Centre in Torquay.
These projects are funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
