Staff and volunteers from the Shiregreen Social Café are urging residents to come along and meet new people to mark World Friendship Day 2018.
A friendly meeting place
Funded by Sanctuary Housing and run by local community regeneration charity SOAR, the café takes place at Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre and provides a friendly, informal meeting place for residents of different backgrounds to come together, as well as supporting those with mental health issues.
The café’s team are encouraging all local people to come along and take part in a varied programme of activities including arts and crafts, games and gentle exercise, have lunch or simply talk with others in a similar situation.
“An invaluable service”
Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager for Shiregreen, Melanie King, said: “We are proud to offer support and funding to the Shiregreen Social Café, it’s an invaluable service for our residents.
“World Friendship Day is giving us a fantastic opportunity to promote this much-loved café and I would encourage all residents to go along.”
Social prescribing service
The Shiregreen Social Café is linked to SOAR’s social prescribing service, which works with 22 GP surgeries in north Sheffield to help people access community-based support.
“A warm welcome”
Helen Warren from SOAR added: “The Social Café offers a relaxed environment for residents to come along and meet new people; there’s no pressure and our staff and volunteers will give a warm welcome to all new faces.”
Sessions take place from 10am until 3pm every other Wednesday. For more information about exact dates, contact Helen Warren by calling 07795 563 700 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
