The long-term future of an important facility for young people in Blacon has been secured.

With support from Chester MP Chris Matheson, Avenue Services has agreed a deal to purchase the Portakabin building at Cairns Crescent, which is used by Blacon Youth Football Club and the Delta Centre youth club.

The youth club, which is run by Avenue Services Youth Workers, initially moved to the facility on a short-term basis after the Delta Centre was demolished during the redevelopment of the Parade in Blacon.

But it has become well-established in its new location, welcoming up to 60 young people aged eight to 18 three nights a week, giving them the opportunity to relax and unwind in a safe environment.

The facility has been supplied by Portakabin, the UK’s market leader in offsite construction, and boasts two meeting rooms, storage space and kitchen facility. It is also home to Blacon Youth FC, which has teams for boys and girls of all ages.

Paul Knight, head of Avenue Services, said: “This is a fantastic facility for young people in Blacon and we are delighted to have worked with our local MP Chris Matheson, Blacon Youth Football Club and Portakabin to secure its long-term future.”

Mr Matheson commented: “The facility at Cairns Crescent is well established and provides a vital service to the community.

“It is so important the young people of Blacon have somewhere to meet and spend time with their peers and I’m very pleased to have helped secure such a positive outcome for all involved.”

Ben Coupar, regional manager for Portakabin, added: “We are delighted to have been able to support Blacon youth. Our local team pulled together to deliver a great building for the entire community to enjoy; it’s great to see it in use, promoting activities for young people in the local area.”

Avenue Services, which is a not-for-profit organisation, is a joint venture between Sanctuary Group and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
