A programme designed to support female survivors of domestic abuse in Banbury has received additional funding allowing it to provide further help to women in the town.
With funding from Sanctuary Housing, Clean Slate, a service for victims of abuse in Oxfordshire, is running its Freedom Programme, which looks to empower, build self-esteem and develop the talking and coping skills of women who have been victims of domestic abuse.
Taking place every Thursday at 10am to 12.30pm, the programme will aim to help survivors make sense of what has happened to them, understand the potential effect on their children and help them to move forwards.
What do the sessions involve?
The sessions involve active participation in structured discussions on the subject of domestic abuse. Working in a group, the programme aims to develop awareness and problem solving, provide assertiveness training and help with understanding and development of one’s self.
The programme will come to an end on Thursday 20 July before starting again in September.
“Help our residents to live happy, health and fulfilled lives”
Kate Winstanley, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, added: “Clean Slate provides a vital service in our community and we are delighted to be supporting them in helping those who have been victims of domestic abuse.
“We are always looking at ways we can help our residents to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives and, by funding care and support services like this, we’re well on our way to achieving this.”
Nadia Brown, project manager at Clean Slate, said: “The Freedom Programme is a nationwide programme for all female victims of domestic abuse and is open to women of all ages regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, background or sexual identity. The women who have previously attended have said that this course has been life changing.”
