Duo of employment projects set to support Shiregreen residents

Two employment projects set up to support Shiregreen residents in September

Two exciting employment projects are coming to Shiregreen this month and are set to support local residents.

Following funding from Sanctuary Housing, the Blend project is searching for Shiregreen jobseekers interested in the catering industry to take part in a bespoke 12 week programme. The project participants will open a new service providing a local lunch club with a healthy, low-cost meal. They will receive specialist training in cookery, customer service skills and health and safety.

In addition, the free course will give the trainees the opportunity to earn a food hygiene qualification, as well as to work with the Sheffield Futures adult careers service who will offer tailored employment advice and guidance.

Steps to Excellence

Manor and Castle Development Trust has received a £2,700 donation from Sanctuary to set up a Shiregreen-based Steps to Excellence programme. The initiative is designed to support the personal development of local people who are looking for work, helping local residents gain confidence, identify their strengths and skills and work on the process of goal setting for the future.

Unlocking residents’ potential

Melanie King, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood manager for Shiregreen, said: “Supporting local residents to unlock their potential is really important to Sanctuary, and both of these projects are set to achieve that.

“All residents are welcome to attend the courses and no previous experience is required. I look forward to seeing what the future brings for the project participants.”

Next steps

Diane Cairns, development manager at Manor and Castle Development Trust, added: “The programme is great fun and is aimed at anyone who would like to make changes to their lives. Steps to Excellence is tailored to each participant, helping to motivate them to take the next steps towards where they want to be.”
