Enterprise Centre at The Parade awash with Purple

13 October 2015

It’s party time for Sanctuary Housing in Chester residents aged over 55 who will be celebrating their seventh annual Purple Day.

Sanctuary’s GOSH Enterprises organise Purple Day in Blacon

The event, which is organised by Sanctuary’s Group of Older people living in Sheltered Housing (GOSH Enterprises), will be held at the recently opened Enterprise Centre in Blacon Parade this Thursday (Oct 15) between 10am and 3pm.

Free activities at Purple Day

Inspired by the Jenny Joseph poem ‘When I am an old woman I shall wear purple’, the event will feature free entertainment including hoola-hooping, walking football classes, the gentle exercise of Otago, which is a set of leg muscle strengthening exercises to help prevent falls, and games of bingo.

Health bus and further activities at Purple Day

There will also be raffles, aromatherapy demonstrations and nail painting, as well as music from Dee Sign Choir and entertainer Mark Birch, while a health bus will be on-hand to offer residents advice on staying healthy.

Organisations supporting Sanctuary’s Purple Day in Chester

Organisations offering expert advice to residents will include Sanctuary Housing’s lettings team, Chester FC Community Trust, the British Red Cross, the Healthy Living Centre, Cheshire Age UK, Deafness Support Network and Avenue Services.

Sanctuary Housing resident involvement officer Maggi Dempsey, said: “This is the first time Purple Day is being held in Blacon and is a great chance for our residents from all over Chester to see the fantastic new facilities at the new Enterprise Centre. Purple Day will once again be a fun, inspirational day with lots of activities, so if you’re a Sanctuary resident aged 55 or over please come along to this free event This year the health bus is at the event so if you are passing pop in to say hello and you could have a mini check-up. The number 1 and 1A bus from stand 1 at the Town Hall will drop you off right outside The Parade.”
