Festive fun at music and comedy night in Chester

9 December 2015

Dozens of Chester residents enjoyed an evening of dance, music and good cheer held to combat loneliness or isolation among older people.

GOSH music and comedy night

More than 50 people attended the music and comedy night at St Werburgh’s centre, in Brook Street, which was organised by members of Sanctuary Housing’s Group of Older People living in Sheltered Housing (GOSH Enterprises).

Entertainment at the GOSH event included a comedian, dance, quiz and raffle

The event included comedy from Liverpool performer P J Laine, a tap routine and dance lessons from Sanctuary resident Angela Traynor, a quiz and raffle, with music and buffet from Cookie.

Dancing at the GOSH event

By the end of the evening the dance floor was full of residents enjoying sounds from the 60s and 70s.

Maggi Dempsey, Sanctuary resident involvement officer, said: “One of the residents said it was the best £3 he had ever spent and I think that sums up the night. More than half of the audience came on their own, but everyone sat with someone. They enjoyed doing the quiz together and engaging with other residents, which is what GOSH is all about.”

Nina Harris, Chair of GOSH, added: “The evening was a great, socially engaging night of fun and laughter. A big thank you to everyone who attended and who gave their support.”

Further events planned by the GOSH group in Chester include a craft morning in January and an Armchair Theatre Club in February. For more details, please contact Maggi Dempsey on 0800 1313348 or 0300 1233511.
