Free football camp for sporty Shiregreen youngsters

1 August 2018

On the back of England’s World Cup success, Shiregreen young people have the opportunity to try out their football skills at a free summer camp funded by Sanctuary Housing.

Forge football

The week-long project is to be delivered by local organisation Forge Youth and will run from 20-24 August, with budding Harry Kanes aged 11-16 invited to attend. It takes place from 10am until 3.30pm each day at Concord Sports Centre on Shiregreen Lane and a snack and refreshments will be provided.

Wider support

The funding forms part of Sanctuary’s wider support of Forge Youth, which also includes the continuation of free weekly youth club sessions taking place from September.

“More things for young people to do”

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Melanie King, said: “The football camp is a fantastic opportunity for all young Shiregreen residents aged 11-16 to build up sporting skills and meet new friends.

“Residents told us through our public consultation earlier this year that they would like to see more things for young people to do; I hope the activities we have planned with Forge Youth show that we trying to address this for the benefit of the whole community.”

“Join us for some sporting fun”

Sam Evans, from Forge Youth, added: “We are grateful to Sanctuary for giving us the funding to run these sessions. I’m looking forward to our youth club starting again in September, and I’d urge all young residents to join us for some sporting fun at our football camp.”
