Get involved in our Chester growing community

We’re pleased to offer green-fingered Chester residents the chance to grow your own fruit and vegetables.

Our Growing Spaces are former garage sites in Vicars Cross, Lache, Hoole and Upton, where residents of all ages can cultivate your own produce in raised beds. We also offer support and training to get people started and develop their skills.

As well as encouraging residents to spend time outdoors, our Growing Spaces are a great place to socialise with your neighbours.

Growers from all four sites recently got together at Vicars Cross to exchange hints and tips.

Resident Barbara Owen, a keen grower at Upton, said: “It was nice to chat about our plans for the autumn and how we all have different ideas.

“I’m very grateful to Sanctuary for the support and encouragement. During the pandemic, the Growing Space made a huge difference for me. Living in an apartment block, it was so important to get outside and just enjoy the fresh air.”

Ann Dooney, our neighbourhood involvement officer, said: “There was a great atmosphere at the get together. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon in the company of fellow growers.

“We’re very fortunate to have these wonderful green spaces in our neighbourhoods and would love to hear from anyone keen to get involved.”
