Home swap success for Suffolk

7 July 2014

Over 150 families looking for a potential home swap attended a successful mutual exchange event that came to Ipswich.

Sanctuary Housing, along with several other housing providers including Flagship Housing Group, Ipswich Borough Council, Mid Suffolk District Council, Babergh District Council, Orwell Housing and Suffolk Housing, hosted the day where customers could find out more about exchanging their home.

Interest for the event resulted in 350 residents providing details of their homes for other potential swappers. Following the event 57 visitors completed further interest forms, which could lead to a potential home swap.

Feedback from the event was positive with many of the residents commenting that they would like to see the home swap event run regularly.

Mitchell Billing, Sanctuary’s housing officer for Ipswich, said: “We are really pleased with the amount of families who came to the event.

“The event has proven that mutual exchange is a potential home move solution for many residents. We hope this has raised some awareness and that other residents will consider this method for finding a new home in the future.”

Steve Gray, customer engagement manager for Flagship, said: “The event demonstrated a real demand for this type of service. Having so many housing associations represented provided an excellent opportunity for our customers to explore the potential for home swapping on a much wider scale.”

“It was great to see so many organisations working together to provide essential advice to customers.”

The event gave guests the opportunity to find out more about mutual exchange, with the potential of being able to downsize or find a property with more space, while remaining in the local area.
