Hundreds attend Daubeney Fields Fun Day

9 July 2014

Hundreds of Hackney residents enjoyed an action packed fun-day on the Daubeney Fields, thanks to a donation and support from Sanctuary Housing.

Organised by the Kings Park Ward Forum, the annual fun-day saw over 500 guests enjoy a mix of entertainment and activities including inflatable sumo wrestling, a kids’ show, a music and talent contest and a play-bus.

The fun-day received an £800 donation from Sanctuary Housing as well as tombola prizes including designer accessories and a family ticket to a Leyton Orient football match. Other sponsors were Groundwork London, The Newlon Group and Circle 33.

Stallholder Patsy Clarke, said: “I’ve had a great day. The atmosphere was lovely and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I will definitely be coming back next year to do it again.”

One of the highlights of the event was a mural painting, organised by Groundwork London. Part of a bigger project to improve the outside appearance of the skate park, the mural was designed by local residents and the finishing touches were made by visitors at the fun day.

Sanctuary Housing’s neighbourhood partnership manager, Jo Revett, added: “Local residents have worked incredibly hard to make the day happen and provide activities appealing to all age groups. It is a fantastic example of true community spirit and Sanctuary Housing is delighted to support such a vibrant event.”

Over 1,000 families live in Sanctuary Housing’s Kingsmead estate, which is situated close to Daubeney Fields. The council owned park area provides valuable green space to the community for a number of different activities, including the fun day.
